Glenfiddich Solera 15

Jim Beam White will always be my “go to” bourbon. I have childhood memories of my father playing cards at the kitchen table with the next door neighbor, while sipping Jim and ginger. For many years (about 30), Jim and ginger was my drink of choice, too,

I eventually graduated to Jim BeamBlack but always kept JBW on the shelf, and my whiskey palate remained quite limited. It wasn't until I received a nice bottle of scotch from my oldest son, as a gift, that I started to explore the ever-changing world of whiskey.

That gift was a bottle of Solera 15 yr by Glenfiddich. This single malt is aged in bourbon, new oak, and sherry casks before harmonizing in a Solera vat that's unique to Glenfiddich. This vat is never emptied and has been kept ½ full since 1998.

Glenfiddich Solera 15 Tasting Notes

Now, since my senses haven't developed to a point of accurately analyzing whiskey, I'll share the descriptions that Glenfiddich offers for this choice.

Color - Golden with a red hue.

Nose - Sweet heather honey, and vanilla fudge combined with rich dark fruits.

Palate - The taste is silky smooth, revealing layers of oak, marzipan, cinnamon, and ginger. It's full bodied and bursting with flavor and has a finish that's satisfyingly rich with a lingering sweetness.

This is a great choice for anyone interested in exploring the world of scotch. It was the first bottle of scotch on my shelf and like Jim Beam White it will always have a place, there.

I was content for many years with just a couple of different bourbons in the house, but I'm happy that I received that first bottle of Scotch. It was the beginning of my fascination with the world of whiskey. I currently have a dozen bottles of different scotches; and my bourbon interests have expanded too.

Even if you can't put your nose to the Glencairn and smell corn dust or sweet heather honey you can still enjoy and appreciate a good pour. I do!
